Marcel Colomb First Nation Unveils Strategic Plan for 2023-2026

In a significant move towards shaping the future of their community, the Marcel Colomb First Nation (MCFN) has released its Strategic Plan for 2023-2026. This comprehensive blueprint outlines the priorities and initiatives that will guide the community’s growth and development over the next three years.

Chief Douglas Hart, in his message accompanying the strategic plan, emphasized the collective effort behind its creation. “This strategic plan is the result of discussions with our administration for planning the future of our citizens,” Chief Hart stated. He highlighted the importance of transparency and accountability, noting that the plan will serve as a critical resource tool for the community.

Key Focus Areas

The strategic plan details various sectors that will be the focus of MCFN’s efforts:

  1. Governance and Administration: The plan stresses the importance of strengthening governance structures, establishing an Elders Council, and improving communication channels within the community. It also outlines steps to promote a positive work environment and enhance decision-making processes.
  2. Community Development: MCFN is committed to socio-economic growth while preserving its rich culture, language, and traditions. The community’s mission and vision statements reflect a deep connection to their Cree and Stoney Cree heritage, aiming to build a “good life” for future generations.
  3. Child & Family Services: The plan includes the establishment of a Working Group to address the impact of the Child and Family Services system on the community. It also involves the development of child and family jurisdiction under Bill C-92 and hiring additional staff to support these initiatives.
  4. Education and Employment: MCFN plans to increase funding for post-secondary education, build a new training center, and work closely with the Frontier School Division to monitor and improve educational outcomes for its students.
  5. Health: Health initiatives include the construction of a home care facility, the hiring of additional healthcare workers, and the promotion of health programs within the community. Plans for a new nursing station and housing for healthcare professionals are also in place.
  6. Housing: Addressing housing needs is a critical component of the plan. MCFN will apply for funding to renovate existing homes, build new housing, and develop policies to ensure proper maintenance and inspection of community housing.
  7. Public Works and Recreation: The strategic plan outlines the expansion of public works services, including road maintenance and the development of a community master plan. Recreation is also a priority, with proposals for a new recreation center, a baseball diamond, a family splash park, and other community facilities.

A Vision for the Future

The Marcel Colomb First Nation Strategic Plan 2023-2026 reflects a holistic approach to community development, balancing the need for economic growth with the preservation of cultural heritage. Chief Hart and the council have expressed their commitment to working closely with community members and staff to bring this ambitious plan to life.

As the community embarks on this journey, the strategic plan serves as a guiding document that not only outlines specific goals but also embodies the values and aspirations of the Marcel Colomb First Nation. The leadership and administration are poised to implement these strategies, ensuring a prosperous and sustainable future for all members of the community.
